Anal Fissure Specialist

Dealing with an anal fissure can be a painful and uncomfortable experience. It is important to find the best anal fissure specialist to ensure proper treatment and relief. In this article, we will discuss the top techniques for finding the best anal fissure specialist.

Anal fissures are common and can happen because of problems like inflammatory bowel disease, constipation, chronic diarrhea, or childbirth. Chronic anal fissures happen when the muscle in the anus is too tight, which leads to poor blood flow and low oxygen in the tissues. This prevents healing. The conventional methods for addressing anal fissures include drugs like topical nitroglycerin and anesthetic creams, injections, blood pressure medications, or surgical procedures.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is one of the best treatments for anal fissures or healing after surgery. This fissure treatment involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber, which helps to increase the amount of oxygen in the blood and promote healing.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment reduces inflammation, saturates the whole body with oxygen, and promotes the development of new, healthy blood vessels. After twenty sessions, HBOT can release up to 800% more stem cells. Studies indicate that HBOT increases cells that make connective tissue. HBOT also promotes new collagen formation, improves circulation, all of which aid in healing wounds.

This study looked at hyperbaric oxygen therapy for people with chronic anal fissures. These fissures happen when a muscle around the anus is too tight, leading to poor blood flow and tissue damage.

Here’s what they did in the study:

  • They included eight patients who had chronic anal fissures that hadn’t gotten better with regular treatment.
  • Each patient had 15 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy over three weeks.
  • They measured the patients’ symptoms like pain and bleeding using a scale before and after the treatment.
  • They also checked if the fissures had healed at the end of treatment and at follow-up appointments after one and three months.

Here’s what they found:

  • All patients completed the treatment without any problems.
  • At the end of treatment, all patients showed signs of healing, and three had completely healed fissures.
  • By the three-month follow-up, five patients’ fissures had healed, one had come back after a bout of constipation, and two hadn’t healed.
  • Patients reported less pain and bleeding after the treatment.
  • The study suggests that hyperbaric oxygen therapy could be helpful for healing chronic anal fissures, especially for those who haven’t improved with other treatments.

The researchers say HBOT is a good option for people who haven’t had success with other treatments or who can’t have surgery. They plan to do more research to figure out the best way to use this treatment for chronic anal fissures.

In this study, researchers wanted to see if hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) could help people with Crohn’s disease who had perianal fistulas that weren’t getting better with regular treatment. They looked at the effects of HBOT on these patients both in the short term (after 16 weeks) and in the long term (after 60 weeks).

Here’s what they did and found:

  • They included 20 patients with Crohn’s disease and high perianal fistulas that hadn’t improved with standard treatments for at least 6 months.
  • Patients received 40 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
  • After 16 weeks of treatment, they saw significant improvements in the activity of the perianal disease and in the condition of the fistulas compared to before treatment.
  • Even after 60 weeks, these improvements were still noticeable and statistically significant.
  • About half of the patients showed a clinical response to the treatment after 16 and 60 weeks, and some even achieved clinical remission.
  • There was also an initial improvement in certain biomarkers like C-reactive protein and fecal calprotectin levels after 16 weeks, but this effect wasn’t seen at 60 weeks.

The study concluded that hyperbaric oxygen therapy can help improve perianal fistulas in people with Crohn’s disease, and these improvements can be maintained for at least a year after treatment.

Been going to Dr. Kilcup for 5+ yrs now off and on for chiropractic care. He has a great energy about him, and his family staff are always kind and professional. I had my first real hyperbaric oxygen experience today which was great. I can't attest to "results" yet of course, but the science is clear all the ways it can bring healing to the body. So I am excited this is the first of many treatments! I will do a post review once I get a bunch under my belt. Also, I had never realized Dr. Kilcup was also a functional medicine practitioner. Talk about divine intervention! I have some other health issues to work through, and now I already have the person I have been looking for. Praise Jesus!
