Keto, Paleo, Atkins – Which One Should You Choose?
If you are wanting to take up an eating plan for 2022, it can be tough to pick which one is right for you. Here I break down for you the differences and requirements of some of the most popular plans to help you choose the perfect one!
Keto: low carb, high fat diet that offers many health benefits. It involves reducing your carb intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis, where the body becomes extremely efficient at burning body fat for energy. Ketogenic diets can cause significant reductions in blood sugar and insulin levels. Read more here.
Paleo: simplified diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, nuts & seeds. As well as, lean meats (grass-fed), fish (especially those rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, mackerel and albacore tuna), and oils from fruits & nuts (ex: olive oil). A paleo-diet may help you lose/maintain weight and have added side benefits. Read more here.
Atkins Diet: similar to the keto diet, this is a low-carb diet, usually recommended for weight loss. Proponents of this diet claim that you can lose weight while eating as much protein and fat as you want, as long as you avoid foods high in carbs. Read more about it here.
No matter what you choose or don’t choose, just being more mindful about what goes into your body is really important. As well, do not forget exercise! Even if you eat perfectly, your body still needs to get moving and sweat out toxins.
Green Detox Keto Smoothie
Equipment
- Blender
Ingredients
- Handful of Kale 15g
- Handful of Fresh Mint Leaves, picked 10g
- 1/2 Avocado
- 1 Celery Stick or 1/4 Fennel 50g
- 1/4 Small Cucumber 100g
- 1 tbsp Protein Powder unsweetened
- 1 cup Almond Milk unsweetened
- 1 tbsp Almond Butter
- 1/2 Lemon, juiced
Instructions
- Scoop the avocado flesh out and place all ingredients into a high speed blender. Blend until smooth.
- Adjust thickness by adding more almond milk if desired. Enjoy!
